Talking hands, expressive gestures, and a world that has changed dreams into reality! That’s what you will find here, at Noida Deaf Society, a place bubbling with enthusiasm where actions speak louder than words in the real sense! (You have to see it to believe it!)

When Ruma Roka, founder of NDS ( Noida Deaf Society) decided to learn sign language at the age of 40, little did she know that one day she would be an idol maker for the deaf receiving an award on their behalf from the famed Bollywood Actor, Aamir Khan.

Noida Deaf Society is the story of a successful journey which had its share of initial hiccups like changing the attitude of families towards deaf and finding job opportunities for the deaf which encouraged usage of their minds too rather than just making use of their hands. The success stories and the happiness of our deaf students inspires each one of us at NDS to work harder towards our common vision which is EMPOWERMENT OF THE DEAF.

Through the use of Indian Sign Language, deaf students at NDS have been able to express themselves freely and communicate better.Their comprehension skills are good to the extent that they have been able to work independently and gain meaningful employment. Amita Kulshresta in NIIT, Rahul Thakur – Graphics Instructor in NDS, Hemant Kumar in CCD, Pawan Kumar in Tata Indicom, Lokesh Rohtagi in Leela Kempenski, are some names among several of our shining stars who had low or almost zero knowledge of computers and other soft skills which are taken for granted in the “hearing” world. These are the people who have gone ahead and bagged the “Best Employee Award” in their respective organizations.

An intensive life skills training along with basic education and vocational training customised according to each student’s capabilities and natural instincts have transformed some of our students into capable role models for the deaf today.

We welcome you to this amazing world! If you feel you can help us with anything please feel free to reach out to us.

More success stories of our students coming up! Keep visiting this blog 🙂

Ruma’s and NDS’ journey is truly amazing. More interesting though is the passion with which they operate … as if they have just started!
You have to see, meet and experience … will change your life.

Have been with NDS for some years now as a Voluntary teacher, helper and I enjoy every moment I spend with the Deaf. I dont just teach but learn so much from them. Very happy to be able to contribute however small towards their learning.
